Mandatory Charging Research Project: Next Steps & Report-back on VAWCC Survey
VAWCCs should be very proud of what we have achieved together so far.
We have pooled resources, worked with researchers to undertake an overdue review of mandatory charging in Ontario and heard from women, service providers and police about how the policy is working. It is a significant accomplishment to collaborate on research that can lead to improved outcomes. VAWCCs were surveyed over the fall (2017) and into winter to gather input on the research and to identify priority areas. The survey report-back provides local feedback as well as background information and the narrative of the Mandatory Charging Project so far. A PowerPoint has been developed to be used as a tool for discussion with your committee. The next step is to use the research to further engage local committees in discussion that can lead to recommendations for positive change. Please include discussion time on your next VAWCC agenda to look at the survey input from other VAWCCs and to talk more about what data means for your community. BBWON will be in touch in the fall (2018) to host a teleconference to talk about potential recommendations coming from the research and VAWCC input and next steps.
